The Cancer Moonshot in Africa: Improving Cancer Patient Outcomes through Public-Private Partnerships

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM (EDT), Thursday, June 8, 2023 ・ Session Room 208
During the recent U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in December 2022, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden recognized the overwhelming need for public-private partnerships (PPPs) to “make a quantum leap” and achieve the U.S. Cancer Moonshot goals. The White House announced its commitment to extending the Cancer Moonshot to Africa through multiple actions and initiatives. Industry’s role in achieving the Moonshot goals globally, and specifically in Africa, cannot be overstated.

Recognizing the critical role of the private sector in improving and scaling access to innovative, high-quality cancer medicines and technologies, BVGH is forging cross-sector PPPs with African healthcare leaders to change the cancer paradigm on the continent.

In this session, leaders from all key sectors will present examples of PPPs that are delivering U.S. FDA-approved treatments to patients, building state-of-the-art cancer centers, empowering cancer researchers through training and participation in international clinical trials, and leapfrogging international practices across Africa. Lessons learned and best practices in managing effective global oncology PPPs will also be shared.
