Navigating Patient Access Barriers to Solve Public Health Challenges in Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular disease is the leading public health issue in the United States, according to the World Health Organization. The total costs of cardiovascular disease in the U.S. are expected to reach $1.1 trillion a year by 2035. Despite significant treatment advances and updated guidelines,
cardiovascular disease remains a significant burden for patients and the health system due to ongoing challenges with diagnosis, disease management, and delivery of guideline-concordant treatment. These challenges stem in part from a range of utilization management and prior authorization policies in both Medicare & commercial markets that have discouraged prescribing of and limited access to treatments that may help improve patient outcomes.

This session will discuss the opportunities to collaborate across the healthcare system to develop pathways that can better standardize patient care, improve outcomes and deliver cost efficiencies in cardiovascular disease to promote population health.
