Top Political Experts to Discuss Presidential Election at 2016 BIO International Convention

May 18, 2016

Washington, D.C. (May 18, 2016) – A former Speaker of the House, an award winning journalist and a top political strategist will lead a spirited discussion on the 2016 presidential election and its potential impact on the biotechnology industry and the global economy at the 2016 Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) Convention. From June 6 – 9, over 15,000 attendees will gather in San Francisco to network, partner and participate in 18 education tracks featuring a wide spectrum of life science topics.

Coming just hours after the presidential primary in California, the keynote panel will feature the Honorable Newt Gingrich, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999 and a 2012 Republican Presidential contender; award-winning journalist and former Chief Political Correspondent for CNN, Candy Crowley and top political strategist, Senior Advisor to President Obama and CNN political commentator, Stephanie Cutter. The discussion will be moderated by BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood.

“At the presidential and congressional level, this is an absolutely critical election for the biotech community, which is on the cusp of delivering ground-breaking new products and medicines to solve some of our planet’s most intractable problems,” said Greenwood. “Our election panel will be held the morning after Californians cast their primary votes. Our experts will go beyond the typical chatter to assess the personalities and policies on which this election will turn. We expect this to be an animated and informative discussion about the future of our country, the coming campaign, and the policy implications for our members.”

Sponsored by Genentech, Wednesday’s Keynote session will take place from 9:00 - 10:30 AM PT and is open to attendees with Convention Access or higher.
