BIO CEO Rachel King and Couric to Discuss How Standing Up for Science and Patients Are at the Heart of Biotech

WASHINGTON - (May 16, 2023) – Katie Couric, award-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and longtime cancer advocate, will discuss her tireless pursuit to stand up for science and patients during a keynote address at the BIO International Convention 2023 on Tuesday, June 6 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Couric will be interviewed by Rachel King, CEO of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO). Couric, a breast cancer survivor, will discuss the importance of the patient voice in developing new therapeutic treatments. Couric is a co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C), which has raised over $746 million to support cutting-edge collaborative science. The organization’s research has contributed to nine new FDA-approved therapies since its launch in 2008.

“We all know Katie Couric as an award-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and multiple Emmy-award recipient,” said King. “But Katie’s journey from caregiver, to advocate, to patient has inspired her relentless efforts to raise awareness and money for cancer research for more than two decades. We are honored to have and learn from her at the  BIO International Convention 2023—she truly embodies this year’s theme, Stand Up for Science.”

Couric’s participation will spotlight the industry’s fundamental purpose – supporting patients. This year’s Convention will offer several sessions on patient-focused drug development throughout the week, along with a variety of sessions on topics including cell and gene therapy, genome editing, clinical trial innovations, personalized medicine, digital health, oncology and more. The BIO International Convention is the largest global event for the biotech industry, gathering more than 15,000 leaders in the research and development of innovative healthcare, agricultural, industrial, and environmental biotechnology products.
