Dr. Kan Shao, Associate Professor at Indiana University School of Public Health, is the founder and president of DREAM Tech, LLC. Dr. Shao holds a dual Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Engineering & Public Policy and an M.S. in Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Shao is an expert in quantitative chemical risk assessment, with a special focus on advancing dose-response modeling strategies. He has made significant scientific contributions to the field of risk assessment including the development of the benchmark dose (BMD) methodology, the improvement of toxicological study design for BMD estimation, and various methods (especially the Bayesian approach) proposed to quantify different types of uncertainties in dose-response modeling and to promote the framework of probabilistic risk assessment. Dr. Shao is now an Associate Editor of the journal Drug and Chemical Toxicology, and served as a reviewer for a number of government risk assessment reports, including the California EPA and US EPA. He is now the President of the American Association of Chinese in Toxicology (AACT) at the Society of Toxicology (SOT). Dr. Shao’s work has been supported by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
