Asha George, DrPH

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, BIPARTISAN COMMISSION ON BIODEFENSE
Asha M. George, DrPH, is the Executive Director of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense. Previously, she served in the US House of Representatives as subcommittee staff director and senior professional staff at the Committee on Homeland Security. She has also worked with all Federal Departments and many agencies. Several organizations, including the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have recognized her national security, public health security, public policy, and emergency management contributions.
Dr. George also served on active duty in the U.S. Army as a military intelligence officer and as a paratrooper. She is a decorated Desert Storm Veteran.
Dr. George makes national security, public health security, and biodefense her top professional priorities. She is often invited to present and publish on these and related topics. She has also written, and been asked to provide input to, congressional legislation, having authored the WMD Prevention and Preparedness Act of 2010.
She serves on the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Advisory Board of the International Spy Museum, the governing board of Healthcare Ready, and the Preparedness Leadership Council, and she is a member of the National Academies of Science Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies; National Academies of Science Steering Committee on Assessing and Improving Strategies for Preventing, Countering and Responding to Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism; and the steering committee of the Pandemic Prevention and Biodefense Center.
Dr. George holds a Doctorate in Public Health from the University of Hawaii, a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University. She is also a graduate of the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, run by the Harvard University Chan School of Public Health and Kennedy School of Government.
