Dr. Bindu Kanapuru is a hematologist-oncologist who leads the Oncology Center of Excellence Cancer in Older Adults Program, focused on improving outcomes for older adults with cancer. She works with internal and external stakeholders and other OCE programs to provide direction and coordination of scientific and policy efforts related to cancer in older adults. Her other areas of interest include disparities in clinical trials, real world evidence and novel trial designs. Dr. Kanapuru joined the FDA in 2015 as a clinical reviewer in the Division of Hematology Products, becoming a multiple myeloma team leader in 2019. Since 2013, Dr. Kanapuru serves as the supervisory associate director of therapeutic review in the FDA Division of Hematologic Malignancies II. In that role, she oversees the development of therapies for patients with lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Prior to joining the FDA in 2015, Dr. Kanapuru was in private Hematology/Oncology practice in Virginia. She completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
