Dr. Siham Mahgoub is an Associate Professor in the Howard University College of Medicine and Infectious Diseases Attending in the Department of Medicine Infectious Diseases Division at Howard University Hospital.
Dr Mahgoub completed her training in New York City: residency at Beth Israel Medical Center previously affiliated with Albert Einstein School of Medicine (now Mount Sinai Beth Israel) followed by Infectious Diseases fellowship at New York Medical College, New York.
Dr Mahgoub started her career at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY (then Affiliate of Cornell Medical College) as a teaching Attending and Associate Program Director in the department of Medicine Infectious Diseases Division.
Subsequently Dr Mahgoub joined the largest and early founders of Infectious Diseases Private Practice in the DC metro area Kane and Davis Associates.
Dr Mahgoub has a lot of interest in health care disparities and ways to close the gap and treating the population in wards 7 & 8 and other wards mostly affected by HIV in Washington, DC. Prior to joining Howard University Dr Mahgoub was selected to be the Medical Site Director for a federally Qualified health center (FQHC) east of the river in Southeast Washington, DC, where she managed HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, Hepatitis C patients with overly complex medical problems.
Dr Mahgoub's interests and areas of expertise are broad: HIV, Hepatitis B & C, general Infectious Diseases, global health and clinical research.
She is currently the Medical Director for the Center for Infectious Disease Management and Research (CIDMAR); Dr Mahgoub is the investigator on several grants:
-Ryan White Part A grant
-COVID-19 Variant Immunologic Landscape Trial (COVAIL Trial)-just recently completed
-Co-Investigator “Comparing Engagement Modalities for Persons with high-risk for HIV or with HIV
Previously Dr Mahgoub has been the Principal Investigator:
-Novavax COVID Vaccine trial and played a critical role with the Howard research team to successfully recruit 150 participants (31% African Americans). She appeared on TV interviews and reached out to the community through lectures and webinars.
-Rutgers -Special Projects of National Significance (SPNs) /Sexually transmitted Infections) grant
-Howard Principal Investigator for the convalescent plasma to treat COVID 19 previously an expanded access through Mayo Clinic
-Co- investigator -Howard University Genetic Study
Dr Mahgoub has played an instrumental role during COVID-19 Pandemic: she was a member of the Former Howard University President Dr Frederick task force for reopening of the University. She has been the lead physician for the COVID 19 treatment working group and contributed to the Howard University treatment guidelines which was particularly challenging with rapidly evolving data on COVID 19. She was able to dedicate a lot of her time to collaborate with her colleagues in different departments at HUH, so guidelines were updated once any national guidelines were released. Dr Mahgoub was nominated by her colleagues at HUH for the leadership Award in 2020.
Dr. Mahgoub believes that the best care can be provided to patients in a multidisciplinary approach. Dr Mahgoub has great passion for teaching the future generation of doctors (medical students, residents, and fellows).
