Monday, February 28 is Rare Disease Day, raising awareness of the 7,000 rare diseases that impact over 300 million people globally. The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) is sharing partners’ and supporters’ reasons and motivations for engaging in rare disease advocacy—we’ll share a few each day this week.
“For those affected by rare diseases, every day is rare disease day,” says Mirta Avila Santos, Executive Director, American Behcet's Disease Association. “There has to be hope for better treatments and possible cures. Rare Disease Day raises awareness globally and provides our communities with the support and hope for better days ahead."
“We participate in Rare Disease Day to bring awareness to the sheer number of affected families and the gaps in medical and emergency care. We participate in Rare Disease Day to save lives,” says Darlene Shelton, President and Founder, Danny's Dose.
Beginning today, the EveryLife Foundation will host a week of virtual briefings and events on Capitol Hill—get the details.
