In order to ensure that new pioneer biotechnology products continue to reach patients and physicians, any statutory pathway for the approval of follow-on biologics must protect patient safety and preserve incentives to innovate.
Farmers, consumers, and the environment benefit every day from agricultural biotechnology. Farmers enjoy increased income and productivity. Consumers enjoy healthful, safe, and abundant food. The environment benefits from decreased chemical applications and carbon emissions. Three federal agencies ensure these crops and foods are as safe for consumption and the environment as other products on the market. In the 12 years that biotech crops have been commercially grown, there has not been a single documented case of an ecosystem disrupted or a person made ill by these foods.
