Promoting Innovation and Economic Growth through Employee Ownership
April 29, 2002
The Honorable Michael B. Enzi
United States Senate
290 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Enzi:
The Coalition to Preserve and Protect Stock Options thanks you and your
staff for your testimony on April 18, 2002 before the Senate Committee
on Finance at its hearing on executive compensation and corporate governance.
As a broad-based coalition of trade associations and companies representing
every sector of the economy -- including manufacturing, financial services,
retailing, food production and technology -- we are thankful for your
efforts to clarify the issues during the recent debate on stock options.
As the only Certified Public Accountant in the Senate, you were able
to dispel the misperceptions that the accounting and tax treatment of
stock options ought to be similar. Your testimony also drove home the
point that expensing stock options at the time they are granted would
eliminate stock options plans for rank-and-file employees.
Once again, the Coalition thanks you and your staff for your testimony
before the Senate Finance Committee.
Sincerely yours,
