Biotech Fashion Show (July 2006)
A fashion show at the recent World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing featured both ready-to-wear clothing and designer gowns -- including some made by top fashion designers Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Stephen Burrows, Heatherette, and Elisa Jimenez -- made with IngeoTM fabric. IngeoTM is spun from polylactide (PLA), a compostable biopolymer made from dextrose corn sugar that is fermented in a biotech process. The fashion show highlighted the diversity of biobased products made with industrial biotechnology currently available to consumers, including plastics, food ingredients, and fuels.

Biotechnology Improves the Lives of People with Autoimmune Diseases (Jan. 2006)
BIO hosts a Capitol Hill briefing on autoimmune disease. Sandra Raymond of The Lupus Foundation of America; JingsonWang, Translational Medicine, Wyeth Research; John Klippel of the Arthritis Foundation; Steve Engle, chairman & CEO, La Jolla Pharmaceutical Co.; and Brent Del Monte, vice president of federal government relations, at BIO discuss how biotechnology has contributed to the development of life-saving products and therapies for lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Crohnís disease and other disorders. BIO Commends House for Passage of Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (May 24, 2005)
Jim Greenwood, president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), issued the following statement on H.R. 810, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives today by a vote of 238-194.

Animals and Medicine (March 2005)
This video highlights the many advances in biotechnology that benefit companion animals and livestock. From biotech-derived vaccines, medicines, and diagnostic tests to the mapping of animal genomes, biotechnology has improved animal health along with human health care and promises to improve animal well-being in the future. Research involving animals has been critical to understanding the fundamental processes of human biology that are so integral to modern medicine. Virtually every major medical advance of the last century has depended upon research with animals.

New Biotech Processes Revolutionize Domestic Energy Production (February 21, 2005)
This video introduces a revolution in industrial biotechnology that is radically changing how companies make ethanol for transportation fuel. The key driver in this new technology is the ability to change the cellulose in agricultural crop plant matter into sugars that can be fermented to produce ethanol and refined into other value-added products. Industrial biotechnology companies have developed microbes that now make it economically feasible to produce ethanol not only from grain but also from corn stover, wheat straw, sugar cane waste and many other agricultural crop residues.
