Media Registration for BIO International Convention Now Available Online

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wednesday, December 10, 2008) -  The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announces the opening of media registration for the 2009 BIO International Convention.  Hosted by BIO, the global event for biotechnology will take place May 18-21, 2009, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga.

“Atlanta’s growing biotech community is an ideal setting for the 2009 BIO International Convention,” said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood.  “We look forward to bringing the best that biotech has to offer to Georgia this spring.”

With the nation’s seventh-largest biotech cluster, Georgia is home to a number of life-science companies and research universities, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Carter Center for Global Health Initiatives.  The industry is projected to produce $7.8 billion in Georgia-generated sales in 2008, according to Shaping Infinity, the Georgia Life Sciences Industry Analysis 2008.

“It is a reflection of the dramatic growth in Georgia’s life sciences industry that this international convention is coming to Georgia and the Southeast for the first time,” said Charles Craig, president of Georgia Bio.

The 2009 BIO International Convention is expected to draw 20,000 industry leaders from around the world. The Convention program will feature more than 150 sessions in 21 breakout session tracks highlighting the latest information and the newest opportunities for executives, investors, scientists, policy leaders, and media from around the world. More than 1,000 speakers will share breakthroughs in medicine, diagnostics, the environment, energy production, food and agriculture and more.

The BIO Exhibition will cover more than 200,000 net square feet, hosting more than 2,200 exhibitors.  For information on exhibiting at the 2009 BIO International Convention, please visit http://convention.bio.org/exhibitors.

In 2008, the convention attracted more than 20,000 attendees and exhibitors with approximately one-third from countries outside the U.S. The San Diego event also hosted numerous domestic and international public officials including 10 US governors.

The BIO International Convention was named 2008 Top Association Show, and has been included on Tradeshow Week’s Fastest 50 list for the second consecutive year.  Growth of the convention and BIO overall, has paralleled that of the dynamic industry that BIO represents.

Advance media registration is now open and will be available online through May 8, 2009.  To register in advance, please visit https://www.compusystems.com/servlet/ar?evt_uid=760&site=MEDIA
