Jim Collins to Present Keynote Address at BIO Human Resources Conference 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Monday, March 02, 2009) -  The Biotechnology Industry Organization today announced that Jim Collins,  best-selling author  of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap …And Others Don’t, will present the keynote address at the BIO Human Resources Conference 2009.   The HR event will take place Sunday-Tuesday, May 17-19, 2009 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel and will be co-located with the BIO International Convention, the global event for biotechnology.

“Jim Collins is a world-renowned expert on building strong teams and businesses, and he will provide inspiration and direction to attendees at a critical time in our industry,” said Ellen Fernandes, managing director of human resources at BIO. “During the current economic crisis, we see great value in discussing critical human resources issues and opportunities by leading voices within the business community and our industry.”

The BIO Human Resources Conference 2009 theme, HR Leading During Times of Change, is designed to provide attendees with opportunities to build and expand their expertise in the technical and business areas of human resources.

“Now is the time for HR professionals to come together to share ideas and strategies for maintaining leadership during periods of crisis and change,” said Fernandes.  “As an association, we are committed to the importance of career development, professional networking and open discussion of critical issues. The BIO Human Resources Conference has an excellent history of providing the right environment for these essential activities.”

The final program concentrates on four tracks – HR Global, HR Strategic, HR Development, and HR Best Practices, which each include five breakout sessions, as well as four plenary sessions.  An updated program can be found at http://www.bio.org/hr/agenda.html.

"Attending the conference provides me with opportunities to gather with my colleagues to discuss and address common issues and business challenges we face within our industry and our profession,” said Kelly Morello, senior director, Human Resources, Tengion, Inc.  “The engaging plenary panels and outstanding breakout sessions provide exceptional educational opportunities and invoke insightful discussions.  I am excited that the conference is now co-located with the BIO International Convention, as the synergies of these two events are of great benefit to ensuring that HR and other business functions are aligned.”

Attendees of the BIO Human Resources Conference will also have the opportunity to attend the BIO International Convention Welcome Reception, the BIO Career Fair on Monday, May 18, as well as the BIO Exhibition.  BIO HR attendees will have the option for an additional fee to extend their HR registration to Wednesday and Thursday for two full days of international convention access which includes the Growing the Biotech Workforce breakout session track.
