BioMalaysia 2011, Pacific Rim Summit To Highlight Partnering Opportunities for U.S. and Malaysian Highlight Biotech Companies

WASHINGTON, DC (June 29, 2011) – Dignitaries from Malaysia, led by the Right Honourable Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister, joined executives of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) today to announce the co-organization of the BioMalaysia 2011 Conference & Exhibition/2011 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy, to be held Nov. 21-23, 2011, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia. The event is designed to facilitate networking and business partnerships between companies from the United States and Asia.

"We are excited to hold the Pacific Rim Summit jointly with BioMalaysia 2011. The event provides an opportunity to showcase industrial biotechnology innovation and developments from Asia and other emerging regions of the world," said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. "An outstanding line-up of thought leaders from leading companies and research organizations will meet in Kuala Lumpur for this event, and we expect a number of partnering, financing and capital formation deals to result."

Through the partnership with BIO and convergence with the Pacific Rim Summit, BioMalaysia 2011 will feature six tracks on industrial, healthcare and agricultural biotechnology and is expected to receive delegates from the Asia Pacific region, the United States and Europe. With more than 60 speakers discussing innovation, technology and commercialization in industrial, healthcare and agricultural biotechnology, the breadth and depth of opportunities for partnering and collaborations abound.

Last year, BioMalaysia 2010 drew more than 7,500 participants with 68 biotechnology experts speaking at the conference and 243 local and international exhibitors from Canada, Korea, Netherlands India and Singapore. BioMalaysia 2011 Conference & Exhibition/2011 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy is jointly organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), BiotechCorp, BIO and Protemp Exhibitions Sdn Bhd.

Now in its sixth year, the Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy will address the latest issues in industrial biotechnology, including algae, advanced biofuels, biopolymers and bioplastics, dedicated energy crops, green chemistry, and synthetic biology. The annual Pacific Rim Summit is the original conference dedicated solely to growth of the industrial biotechnology sector in Asia and the Americas.
