BIO Welcomes Obama Commitment to Scientific Integrity

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tuesday, March 10, 2009) - BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood issued the following statement today in response to President Obama’s signing of a Presidential Memorandum on scientific integrity:

“President Obama’s commitment to scientific integrity in policymaking heralds an era of new possibilities for the U.S.   Biotechnology is uniquely positioned to fulfill the President’s vision of a robust science sector, capable of driving significant economic growth, providing advanced therapies and cures for patients suffering from debilitating diseases, developing new energy sources, and enhancing sustainable agriculture.

“This is an important step to help continue America’s global leadership in innovation, particularly as emerging economies like China and India aggressively invest in science, including biotechnology.

“The commitment the President is making today will help to secure a cleaner, healthier, more prosperous future for our nation.  We in the life sciences are delighted to join him in that effort.”
