Michael J. Phillips, executive director of food and agriculture for BIO, delivered the 2001 D.W. Brooks Lecture for the University of Georgia's College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Phillips' lecture, "The Future of Agricultural Biotechnology," focused on worldwide adoption, forthcoming innovations, and the myriad policy issues associated with the field of agricultural biotechnology. The lecture is named for the late D.W. Brooks, founder of Gold Kist, Inc., and Cotton States Mutual Insurance Companies. Brooks advised seven U.S. presidents on farm and trade issues and was the first inductee into the University of Georgia's Agricultural Hall of Fame.
